What are Phenesse chips and where are the products sourced from?

The Phenesse™ chip range consists of 2 types of chips, Tradition French Oak and Lush Blend French and American Oak. Tradition French Oak is a very quintessential French style oak chip that adds volume, structure and length. Lush Blend is a nuanced blend of French and American oak for balanced tannins; it adds a powerful expression of sweet and fruity notes with round mouthfeel. The raw material is sourced from high quality oak forests and manufactured by areputable French oak company. Phenesse™is designed specifically for the U.S. market. The wood selection and toasting methodology (extra-long toasting cycles, softer profiles) are to ensure high quality and consistency with a great price.

How are the chips packaged?

There are 22lbs of chips per bag.

How are the chips toasted?

Phenesse™chips are toasted using the convection toasting method with a long toasting cycle, after 24 months of seasoning. Its rigid process allows a great control and consistent oak profiles for balanced aromas and characteristics over time.

How much oak chips do I need to use for my wine?

This depends on the amount of wine and preferred dosage. Please refer to our dosage calculator on the G3 website: https://www.g3enterprises.com/g3-oak-alternatives

When should I use the oak chips?

The oak chips can used during fermentation, as soon as the alcoholic fermentation is complete for aging, or right before bottling for a quick impact.

What is the recommended soaking time for wine?

The recommended soaking time is 4 to 8 weeks.

Can I reuse the oak chips?

It is not recommended to reuse the oak chips, but they can be if they are immediately transferred into another wine. The chips should not be stored once they have been used. Please discard the chips after the recommended contact time.

Do you test the oak chips for TCA?

Yes, they are tested for TCA.

I produce organic wines, may I use Phenesse?

Yes, a certification can be provided if necessary.

I produce Kosher wines, may I use Phenesse?

Yes.

If I do not want to use the whole bag at once, can I store the rest for future use?

Yes, as long as the bag is resealed tightly. Store it in a dry and clean area.

Do you offer trial samples?

Yes, we offer sample trials for the chips.
